Ali and Zara were still in their aunt’s beautiful garden.

The sunlight was warm, the leaves were shining… and Ali was thinking hard.

“Aunt…” Ali said slowly,
“You told us leaves make food using sunlight. But… where does the water come from?”

Zara quickly added,
“Yes! Plants don’t have bottles or taps… so how do they drink water?”

Their aunt smiled.

“Ahh… now you are asking the real scientist questions.”

She gently pointed toward the soil.

“Today… we go underground.”

🌱 The Hidden World Below

“Imagine,” their aunt said,
“there is a secret world under the soil… full of tiny tunnels.”

Ali’s eyes widened.
“Like an underground city?!”

“Exactly,” she said.
“And in that city lives the plant’s roots.”

🌿 What Do Roots Do?

She pulled out a small plant carefully and showed them.

“These thin, hair-like parts are called root hairs.”

Zara leaned closer.
“They look so tiny… can they really drink water?”

Their aunt nodded.

“Yes. These tiny root hairs act like super straws.”

💧 How Do Roots Drink Water?

“Inside the soil,” she explained,
“there are tiny drops of water stuck between soil particles.”

“The roots absorb this water… slowly… quietly… all the time.”

Ali whispered,
“So the plant is drinking… even when we can’t see it?”

“Yes,” she smiled.
“Plants are always working—even silently.”

🍳 Water = The Cooking Helper

Ali suddenly remembered.

“Wait! You said leaves cook food… using sunlight. So what does water do?”

Their aunt picked up a leaf and said:

“Think of it like cooking at home.”

“Sunlight is like the fire 🔥
Carbon dioxide is like the ingredients 🥦
And water…”

She paused.

“Water is like the oil or base 🍳”

Zara clapped,
“Ohhh! You can’t cook properly without oil!”

“Exactly,” her aunt said.
“Without water, the leaf cannot make food properly.”

🚰 The Journey Inside the Plant

“But how does the water reach the leaves?” Ali asked.

Their aunt drew a line in the soil with a stick.

“After roots absorb water… it travels up through the stem like tiny pipelines.”

“From roots → stem → leaves.”

Zara smiled,
“So it’s like a delivery system!”

“Yes,” she laughed,
“A perfect natural delivery system.”

🌟 Ali’s Big Realization

Ali looked at the plant again.

“So roots drink water… stem carries it… and leaves cook food?”

“Perfect!” said their aunt proudly.

Ali grinned,
“Plants are like tiny factories!”

🎯 Mini Activity for Kids

Try This at Home:

  1. Take a small transparent glass

  2. Add water + a few drops of food color

  3. Place a white flower or coriander stem in it

  4. Wait a few hours

👉 Watch how the color travels upward!

Question to Ask Kids:
Where did the color go? How did it reach the leaves?

🌟 Teacher / Parent Tip

Encourage children to:

✔ Think in real-life comparisons (like cooking)
✔ Ask “HOW” and “WHY” questions
✔ Observe plants daily (watering time is learning time!)
✔ Draw the journey: roots → stem → leaves

👉 Don’t rush to definitions—build understanding first.
