Ali and Zara observe plant parts - plant science story for kids Grade 2-3 Science Stiryland

Ali ran to the soil bed early in the morning.

“Zara! Come quickly!” he shouted.

Zara came running. “What happened?”

Ali pointed excitedly, “Look! The tiny plants are bigger now!”

Zara bent down. “Hmm… they look different today.”

Ali looked closely. “Yesterday they were just small leaves. But now… I see more parts!”

Zara smiled, “Let’s observe carefully like scientists.”

They both sat beside the plants.

Ali pointed, “This thin green stick… what is it?”

Zara replied, “That is called the stem.”

Ali touched it gently. “It’s holding the plant up!”

Zara nodded, “Yes! The stem helps the plant stand and carries water to different parts.”

Ali then looked at the leaves. “And these green parts?”

“Those are leaves,” Zara said. “They are very important for the plant.”

Ali noticed something under the soil. “But what about below? What’s inside the soil?”

Zara picked a small plant very carefully and showed him.

Ali’s eyes widened. “Wow! There are tiny threads!”

Zara explained, “Those are roots. They hold the plant in the soil and take water from it.”

Ali thought for a moment.

“So a plant has roots, stem, and leaves?”

Zara smiled, “Yes! These are the main parts of a plant.”

Ali looked curious again. “Do all plants have these parts?”

Zara said, “Hmm… that’s a good question. Maybe we should observe more plants!”

Ali grinned, “Yes! Let’s become plant detectives!”

๐ŸŒฟ What We Learned (Simple Science)

  • Roots → Hold the plant in soil and take in water

  • Stem → Supports the plant and carries water

  • Leaves → Important part of the plant (we’ll learn more next time ๐Ÿ˜‰)

๐Ÿ”Think Like a Scientist

  • What are the main parts of a plant?

  • Why do plants need roots?

  • How does the stem help the plant?

  • Do all plants look the same?

  • Can you find these parts in different plants around you?

๐Ÿงช Activity:

Become a Plant Detective

๐Ÿ‘‰ Go outside or look at a plant in your home.

Step 1:

Find a small plant.

Step 2:

Observe carefully:

  • Can you see the leaves?

  • Can you find the stem?

  • Can you guess where the roots are?

Step 3:

Draw what you see!

  • Which part helps the plant stand tall?

๐ŸŒŸ Teacher/Parent Tip

Encourage children to:

  • Touch and observe real plants

  • Ask questions instead of memorizing
